PRESS RELEASE
IVC CONSTRUCTION TEAM TO HOLD LOCAL SUBCONTRACTOR OUTREACH MEETINGS
IMPERIAL, CA—Imperial Valley College will be holding a series of workshops over the next several weeks to educate local subcontractors with an objective of increasing their participation in upcoming IVC construction projects.
"The Board of Trustees of the Imperial Valley College (IVC) is committed to hiring local firms to work on Measure "J" construction projects," said IVC Vice President for Business Services John Lau. "This is following through on our commitment to the Valley to facilitate more local firms to be successful in the bidding process.
Measure "J" is an $80 million bond authorization that was approved by voters in November 2010 to improve education and expand career opportunities.
IVC has selected Nielsen Construction Ca. to provide Lease-Leaseback services for the bond program. Nielsen Construction Ca. will be holding a series of subcontractor outreach meetings. All meetings will be held at the Pioneer Museum:

During the meetings, IVC and Nielsen Construction Co. will review Nielsen's role in the process, the project scope, and prequalification materials and requirements.
In addition, Building Information Modeling (BIM) seminars will be held to educate the local contracting community on the software's use and benefits. BIM is a computer software tool that enables the coordination of building systems design and installation and analyses building efficiency and lifecycle costs. The software enables all team members to visualize and coordinate a project in 3-D as opposed to 2-D plans resulting in more cost effective and high quality projects. This tool has resulted in substantial savings in cost and time.
Experts in Bonding, Insurance and Prevailing Wage will also participate in leading several of these Outreach Events. They will cover various types of insurance products, how to establish or increase a business's bonding capacity, and review of Prevailing Wage processing.
