Imperial Valley Community College administers three programs funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Branch of TRIO Programs.

The purpose of the Upward Bound Program is to generate the skills and motivation necessary for success in education beyond high school, among low-income, first generation college students, who are enrolled in high school seeking to prepare themselves for entry into post-secondary education (as defined by the Federal Regulations). Participants receive instruction in science, literature, composition, mathematics, study skills, and other subjects necessary for success in education beyond high school. Services and activities are scheduled after school, on Saturdays, and during the Summer Bridge and Residential programs.

The philosophy of the Upward Bound Program is that by helping students with their school assignments, overcoming class, social and cultural barriers to higher education, Upward Bound students will have a realistic chance of entering and graduating from post-secondary institutions. Upward Bound is also an early intervention project which effectively reaches out to students in the grade's nine through twelve that have "college potential", but often do not recognize or understand their academic and career options beyond high school.

The primary purpose of Upward Bound is to prepare disadvantaged students for successful entry level, retention in, and completion of post-secondary education. In general, Upward Bound identifies students and provides them with encouragement, support, and assistance.

Here, current students will be able to keep in contact with each other as well as receive information on upcoming events and important information. Current Upward Bound parents can review our program agenda as well as receive valuable information for their student's educational prospects.

Prospective Students and Parents will be able to access recruitment information as well as submit a pre-application on-line. Please click on Program Information to continue.
