Dr. Hope Davis, Professor of Music, teaches and directs the IVC Singers, including students enrolled in MUS 156 & 157 (both credit courses) and MUS 802 Community College Chorus for Older Adults (noncredit).  Concerts may also include students enrolled in voice classes, MUS 150, 152, 250 & 252.

Dr. Davis encourages older adults to enroll in her section of MUS 802, Community College Chorus for Older Adults, offered mornings on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 9:40 a.m. for those older adults with little or no experience in singing.  It will be a lot of fun and an enrichment opportunity.

The IVC Singers have over the past few years performed at many venues throughout Southern California (Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Oceanside, Salton City, and Blythe); in Arizona (Yuma); and at venues in the Imperial Valley (Westmorland, Niland, Bombay Beach, Calexico, Holtville), as well as in El Centro. They serve their community well.

In addition, the Singers have participated alongside distinguished college choirs such as Rio Honda College Choir from Los Angeles, and Palo Verde College Choir from Blythe, CA. In Fall of 2015, the IVC Singers gave two performances of the widely acclaimed "La Fiesta de la Posada" Cantata by Dave Brubeck, a California composer, with Palo Verde College Choir. They were very successful.

MUS 156 Beginning College Chorus: Open to all students who have an interest in learning to sing and who enjoy music. Breath control, tone placement, articulation and enunciation. Rehearsal, performance and study of choral literature. Introduction to music theory as a means of learning to read music rather than learning by rote. Maximum credit two units. (Accepted for credit at CSU,UC) 

MUS 157 Intermediate College Chorus: Continuation of MUS 156. This course will further students' development in choir performance. Maximum credit two units. (Accepted for credit at CSU)

MUS 802 Community Chorus for Older Adults: Designed for older students who have an interest in learning to sing and who enjoy music. Breath control, tone placement, articulation and enunciation. Rehearsal, performance and study of choral literature. Introduction to music theory as a means of learning to read music rather than learning by rote. The course intends to assist older adults in identifying and examining personal interest and aptitudes in music to enhance mental acuity and creativity, as well as appreciation of the arts.

Dr. Davis directs the IVC Singers, students enrolled in Chorus classes, during a public performance at the First United Methodist Church in El Centro, CA.

MUS 150 Beginning Voice I: The student receives guidance in the performance and appreciation of the various types of solo songs while acquiring the facilities for good vocal technique. Principles are applied through group and individual singing. (CSU,UC)
