The U.S. economic future is green. There will be thousands of new job openings for people with specific training in the "Green Jobs" fields. The majority of new jobs are in the fields of science, skilled trades, construction and engineering.
"Green Building" is as an organized effort to design, construct, and maintain buildings and facilities using processes and materials that promote environmental sustainability. Demand for green building construction in California is expects to increase overall by over 25% by 2014. A large portion of the growth in this sector is tied to the increase of regulations and complexity associated with green buildings.
The Energy Efficiency Technology program prepares students for "green collar" jobs in building efficiency, sustainable building and renewable energies. For example, a career in Construction, Managers focus on planning and coordinating the building of a home or facility. Green buildings require more planning and integration of different systems, subcontractors and building materials. They must also have expanded knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective locally.
Imperial Valley College and IVROP has partnered for Project B-Green. The project is a federally and locally funded training program aimed specially at energy conservation in the Imperial Valley. It is a rigorous, hands-on process that included internships, as well as community service work to retrofit low-income homes with energy-efficient technology.

Industry Certifications and Licensure
The Energy Efficiency program has various certifications that can be attained. The main industry certifications are, Building Analyst Professional and Envelope Professional. The Building Analyst Professional and Envelope Professional certifications are offered through the Building Performance Institute and information on the process for attaining these licenses can be obtained at www.bpi.org
CAREER TECH EDUCATION (CTE) PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL AND REGIONAL OCCUPATIONAL PROGRAM (ROP) STUDENTS
Imperial Valley College maintains faculty-approved formal course articulation agreements with Imperial Valley high schools and the Imperial Valley ROP (Regional Occupation Program). Courses with articulation agreements follow the California Career Statewide Pathways Templates in the areas of: Administration of Justice, Allied Health Programs, Business, Automotive Technology, Building Construction Technology, Child Development, Computer Information Systems, Health Assistant and Welding.
Students who complete an articulated class offered through a partnering high school or ROP program, receive a qualifying grade in their course, and pass the IVC Credit-by-Exam for the subject area, will be eligible to receive college credit for the articulated corresponding Imperial Valley College class posted to their official transcript. Eligible students will work with the Applied Sciences Office at IVC for the awarding of college credit.
