Industry Information

Construction is an ever-expanding industry and a skill that is needed worldwide. Our Building Construction program trains men and women to enter the construction industry as skilled professionals. Construction is a fascinating and challenging profession, that allows workers to be creative, and continually improve on their skills and abilities.

Highly skilled construction technicians are needed in all aspects of the construction industry, including concrete and masonry; drafting and estimating; carpentry; and finish and trim. The construction industry erects our homes, with built-in design for the comfort and pleasure of everyday living. Construction keeps business housed and moving in commercial applications.

Opportunities for long-term employment, consistent work hours, increased job responsibilities and earnings are available to those who enter this great profession. To qualify as a wage earner in the modern day construction field, a person must possess technical knowledge of construction design and the skills to apply that knowledge.

CAREER TECH EDUCATION (CTE) PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL AND REGIONAL OCCUPATIONAL PROGRAM (ROP) STUDENTS

Imperial Valley College maintains faculty-approved formal course articulation agreements with Imperial Valley high schools and the Imperial Valley ROP (Regional Occupation Program). Courses with articulation agreements follow the California Career Statewide Pathways Templates in the areas of: Administration of Justice, Allied Health Programs, Business, Automotive Technology, Building Construction Technology, Child Development, Computer Information Systems, Health Assistant and Welding.

Students who complete an articulated class offered through a partnering high school or ROP program, receive a qualifying grade in their course, and pass the IVC Credit-by-Exam for the subject area, will be eligible to receive college credit for the articulated corresponding Imperial Valley College class posted to their official transcript. Eligible students will work with the Applied Sciences Office at IVC for the awarding of college credit.
