Student info
Students will need to buy an access code for the My Reading
Lab program. This can be purchased from the
bookstore or directly from the publisher online. Once they have the code, they may register for
the program, which they must do in the Lab to be sure that the get into
the correct class.
Students need an email address in order
to use the program.
Students must take a placement
diagnostic in order to establish their current reading level and allow the
program to set the level for all of their exercises.
Students are informed of assignments, deadlines, rules, and procedures, and are given a Reading Lab sheet for recording their time.
Assignments
Assignments begin Saturdays at 9:00 A.M. and end two weeks later on Fridays at 3:00 P.M.
There are six two-week assignment blocks during the semester.
There are two types of assignments for Eng. 086-088:
My Reading Lab – Completion is
based on scoring 70%
comprehension on both the Skill Practice and Skill Test, and completing a
Reading Level selection.
Phonics
– Completion is based on listening to all of the assigned lessons and
successfully demonstrating correct pronunciation for each sound.
There is one assignment for Eng. 089:
My Reading Lab – Completion is based on scoring 70% comprehension on the Skill Practice and 75%
on the Skill Test, and completing a Reading Level selection.
Assignments are printed on student calendars and on the Reading Lab worksheet.
Deadlines
Assignments begin on Saturday’s at 9:00 A.M. and are due every second Friday at 3:00 P.M.
There are no extensions – Students cannot begin working on an assignment before the block
begins or make
up work for which a deadline has passed.
Any work done
outside the block dates does not count for Lab credit.
Phonics diagnostics tests for 086, 087, and 088 are required. If the diagnostic test is not completed, the student cannot work on phonics which means that the student cannot receive credit for that Block.
Students working on My Reading Lab at home must follow the same deadlines as do students who work on it in the Lab.
Reading Plus at Home
Students may work on Reading Plus at home (or on any off-campus computer) if they have completed at least one assignment in the Lab, and understand how the program works.
Students who do My Reading Lab s at home need to comply with all deadlines and complete all phonics assignments in the Lab.
Drops
Please notify (email or telephone) the Reading Lab (X. 6391) of students who drop your class; we need their names and the CRN for the class.
Bi-weekly reports
The Lab will issue a report at the end of each two-week assignment Block:
The report indicates how much work the
student has done for the Block and, based on that, whether or not he/she gets
credit for the Block.
At the bottom of the cover memo may be
a note indicating special situations which may influence how you incorporate
Lab work into the class grade.
