Anthropology Department | Human: Who are we? Come find out. Diverse in culture. Similar in genetics. Always interesting. The Anthropology department offers courses in cultural and physical anthropology and Native American studies such as Indians of California, Indians of the Southwest, and Indians of North America. | Cultural Anthropology emphasizes global cultural diversity including art, religion, marriage and kinship, and social changes from a foraging to an agricultural community. Physical Anthropology is the study of human and nonhuman primate evolution as provided through fossils and through analysis of cultural remains. A topic of importance is human adaptation to different environments, inheritance of diseases, and the understanding of the evolutionary processes through the study of gentics. | Native American studies focus on Indian Nations and tribal groups, their geography, their language and their social structure, as well as management of the natural resources. Other topics of discussions are Early Migrationtheories into the Americas, the prehistoric and ethnohistoric influence of Mexico, repatriation of cultural resources and curent Native American concerns. Interested? All courses are transferrable to the university system. |
