Psychology 

    Psychology is the scientific discipline that studies individual behavior and the mental processes that can change that behavior.  Psychology studies how people develop, learn, think, and feel in all of the areas of their lives.  Psychology studies the factors that influence behaviors such as culture, biology, genetics, attitude, parenting, social pressures, and how these factors inter-relate with each other.  There are a very large number of specialties within the field of psychology including:

  • Educational psychology
  • Forensic psychology
  • Military psychology
  • Health psychology
  • Industrial/organizational psychology
  • School psychology
  • Developmental psychology
  • Cognitive psychology
  • Comparative psychology
  • Cross-cultural psychology
    Within each of these (and many other) specialties there are even a larger number of sub-specialties.  Psychologists are found working in an equally large variety of locations such as business, governmental offices, mental health clinics, and private counseling services.
