Definitions:    

1 Nature and Environment Photo:
A picture that captures, with all its phenomena, the air, water, minerals, and life (flora and fauna) - an appreciation of the world.

2 Feature Photos:
an image that shows human interest (“a slice of life”); it is timeless. NPPA definition: A picture of a "found" situation that features strong human interest, or a fresh view of an everyday scene.

2 Sports Action Photos:
The sports action photos should summarize the game in an image. The image will be taken “on the field” during real sports event.

1 Sports Feature:
A sports feature is likely found off the field, it is not the action but often a reaction to the game. It doesn’t have to involve a game situation.

1 Photo Essay:
They can be film or digital. 9-12 images in a story, essay or group form. It should achieve visual coherence through the integration of words, pictures and layout.

1 Pictorial:
The pictorial is often a photograph for its beauty. It must include a human element. NPPA definition: A picture that exploits the graphic or aesthetic qualities of the subject with an emphasis on composition

1 Portrait and Personality:
NPPA definition: A picture that captures an aspect of the subject's character. Should focus on one person. Still Life: photographic representation of an inanimate object, such as flowers or food.
