1. When is the best time to apply?   When all prerequisite and degree courses have been completed.  This allows the student more time to focus on nursing courses without scheduling additional classes that may interfere with the nursing schedule.
2. What do I turn in with the application?  Copies of transcripts from all colleges and institutions, a copy of the IVC transcript, a copy of high school diploma, transcript, or GED (must be US equivalent), and a copy of the TEAS results.  Documentation from any ‘life experience or special circumstances’ should also be attached if applicable along with a copy of the counselor’s evaluation of courses. 
3. Do I meet with a counselor before turning in my application?  Yes!  The counselor will develop your education plan and follow you through the program.  A copy of that plan should be included with the application.
    
4. Do local students have priority in the program?  No.  All students who apply and meet the criteria are considered for admission. 
5. Are students placed on a wait list?  No!  Students not accepted must submit a new application. 
   
6. Is the TEAS Exam required?   Yes.  A minimum composite score of 62% is required to pass.  Only the initial score is considered.  Only Version 5 or higher will be accepted.  No previous versions are accepted.  Study materials can be purchased directly from the ATI website at www.atitesting.com  For testing dates, contact the IVC Nursing Learning Center 760-355-6530.
7. When should I take TEAS?  Anytime you have studied and are well prepared to test.  You will need an official copy when applying to the program.
8. What happens if I don’t pass TEAS?  According to Nursing policy, students who do not achieve the cut score on the 2^nd attempt are ineligible for admission to the program. 
   
9. When do I know if I am accepted?  Applicants are notified by regular mail about 30 days after the deadline period.
    
10. What is the selection process?  Students are ranked by a point system using the Multi-screening admission criteria developed by the Chancellor’s Office in 5 categories:  1) Academic Degrees or Relevant Certificates or Work Experience; 2) GPA for Science and General fixed set courses; 3) Life Experience or Special Circumstances; 4) Alternate Language Proficiency, and 5) TEAS.  The multi-screening admission criteria guide is found on the RN webpage at www.imperial.edu/nursing
11. I applied but did not get accepted – what do I do?  Continue to apply and take courses to increase the core Science and overall GPA.  The counselor can guide you with this process.  Taking the AHP 060 Health Assistant and/or EMT 105 class is also recommended for nursing knowledge base only.
12. Can I apply for RN if enrolled in the IVC VN program?  No.  Applications are open to students not currently enrolled in the IVC nursing program. 
13. Does repeating or withdrawing from a prerequisite Science course count?  Yes!  A ‘W’ or failing grade can negatively impact your points for admission to a nursing program.  The criteria states one (1) repeat course per semester is allowed. 
    
14. What about transfer students?  Transfer students follow the same application procedures but must complete a Transfer Form.  Contact the Nursing & Allied Health Office to pick up a form.
